“Yaroslavna”Youth Female Chamber Choir – Kiev, Ukraine

The choir was established in 2006 at the Kiev Art School. The singers are graduates and high school students of the Art School. The choir’s repertoire consists of contemporary composers’ works, folk songs in processing and Renaissance music. Choir is a laureate of all-Ukrainian and international contests named after M. Leontovych, B. Lyatoshinsky, Lesi Ukrainky, as well as the International Festival of Orthodox Music in Hajnówka (Poland), Christmas in Italy and others. The Choir regularly takes part in Kiev cultural life and received Gratitude Letters from the Ministry of Culture. It was awarded with diplomas of the National Union of Composers of Ukraine and Kiev City State Administration. In 2012 “Yaroslavna” Choir defended the title of “National Collective”.

Luiza Arsentievna Kovalenko was born in 1934 in Kherson. She studied and graduated from Irkutsk Music School and Choir Conductor Department of Kharkiv Art Institute. From 1968 to 1982 Mrs. Kovalenko taught conducting and theoretical disciplines at Lutsk Art College. From 1982 she has been working as a methodologist of the Republican Methodical Cabinet of the Educational Institutions at the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine. Since 1993 she has been a teacher at the Choir Department of Children Art School No.7 in Kiev and Art Director of the Youth Female Choir “Yaroslavna”. She dedicated her life-long teaching career for the education of the young generation. Mrs. Kovalenko was repeatedly awarded with diplomas and gratitude letters from the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, National Union of Composers of Ukraine and Kiev City State Administration.
